We have been visiting Big Bear every Christmas season for a few years now. It has become a nice tradition amongst all of the craziness this time of year. It is so nice to getaway and enjoy time with the family. It is also amazing that we can drive 90 minutes and be surrounded by snow! So we decided to round up some of our favorites for you to reference the next time you want to take a trip to Big Bear, CA.
Where to Stay
Staying near the Village is a must! It is right in the center of the fun. We always use Airbnb when we are booking a cabin in Big Bear. We have found that it really is the best way to book our stay. We have stayed in several different homes over the years. Make sure when you book, your cabin has a fireplace to keep you warm and toasty after being out in the snow. We also double check to ensure pets are allowed as we love to bring our dogs along.
What to Do
Like we mentioned above, the Village is a great spot to go hang out. They have a ton of shopping, restaurants, gift shops, and our kids favorites, candy shops. We love to just walk around and browse the shops, stop for lunch, and grab a hot cocoa. A must is taking a picture in front of the massive Christmas tree and visiting Santa. There are also several firepits throughout the Village where you can warm up. There is also a concert and comedy venue, the Cave. If you are looking for a night out, the cave is the perfect mix of location, amenities, and live entertainment. What would be a Big Bear trip be without some snow fun? So of coarse we love skiing, snow boarding, and sledding. The best place to snow board is Bear Mountain. This nearly 200 acre winter playground offers a huge variety of rails, boxes and walls, 150+ snow features of all shapes and sizes, and Southern California’s only Superpipe. If you would rather take the kids sledding, head to Big Bear Snow Play. It is a lift-assisted inner tubing park that lets parents and children conserve their energy for the thrilling downhill twists and turns and not on walking uphill.
Where to Eat
One of our favorite places to eat is at 572 Social. This restaurant is a fun and relaxing eatery which focuses on fresh and eclectic food choices. It has both inside and outside dining options and sometimes has a live band. We love to sit outside by the huge firepit and enjoy a glass of wine. If you are looking for the best breakfast in town, head to Grizzly Manor Café. This quaint little café serves breakfast and lunch and the atmosphere is so cozy. They encourage their customers to write a note or draw a picture and they will post it on the wall. And we are not kidding when we say the BEST breakfast! If you are a fan of biscuits and gravy, try the Blob, you will not regret it! Another favorite of ours is Big Bear Lake Brewing Company. This is not only a brewery, but also a restaurant with a fun atmosphere and great food to go with their craft and house beers. If you love avocado like we do, try the Avocado Bomb. It is a honey ale battered avocado with spicy ahi, crab shrimp cake, ponzu, chipotle aioli & wonton crisps. It is to die for!
